Human (social) experience

The team of the International Relations Office has designed an Accompaniment Program for international students to facilitate their integration
and adaptation at academic, cultural and language levels.

International Student Accompaniment Program

What is it?

Before arriving in Chile:
  • Students receive guides on Chile, UdeC campuses, and the regions they are in, as well as
    abundant information on country entry rules, accommodation, how to get to the University, and practical tips
    bout being a UdeC student.
  • Students attend an online talk along with the Mobility Team of the International Affairs Office,
    where they can find answers to their questions about immigration and arrival procedures in Chile.
Upon arrival: an individualized reception

The mobility team of the International Relations Office welcomes each student who comes on exchange at UdeC. The aim is to provide them with personalized information about the necessary steps for academic insertion and direct communication channels with the academic authorities and the team of the Office.

A personalized accompaniment for integration into university life

During your stay you can count on the support of the OFIS group (Orientation for International Students), a group of UdeC volunteer students who will welcome, accompany and guide you through the Campus and the city so as to facilitate your adaptation to the environment and to the administrative and academic processes of Universidad de Concepción.

Spanish course for non-Spanish speakers

If Spanish is not your native language, you will be able to take a course that will allow you to strengthen your communication skills in Spanish.

Integration activities and learning about the cultural heritage

During your whole stay, you will be able to take part in integration activities, learning about the campus and its natural and architectural attractions and the local heritage of Chile.

How to apply?

Nomination for an exchange at UdeC is made through the International Office of the institution of origin to our nomination platform. Subsequently, if admissible, students will be responsible for completing the application, submitting the documents required according to instructions received by mail.

When is the nomination made?

To go on exchange during the first half of the academic year (March-July) the nomination deadline is October 15 of the previous calendar year.
To go on exchange during the second half of the academic year (August-December) the nomination deadline is May 15 of the current calendar year. Bear in mind that for the programs of the Faculty of Medicine, there are different nomination dates.

What are the documents required to apply for an exchange at Universidad de Concepción?

To apply for Universidad de Concepción, in addition to completing your personal history and selecting your mobility academic project, you must submit the following documentation:

  • Student University Record (marks or grades transcript and course history from first year).
  • Exchange letter of intent showing your academic interest in UdeC.
  • Brief curriculum vitae.
  • Spanish level certificate: B1 or higher. (Certificate by Instituto Cervantes/Certificate by Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua española (SIELE)/Level accreditation by the Institution of origin) *this certificate is not required for students from Spanish-speaking institutions.
  • Copy of passport.

How long does an exchange last?

Depending on the type of activities you want to do, the stay may be short (a few months) up to one year.

What type of exchange can I apply for in UdeC?

At Universidad de Concepción, you can take courses or conduct research.
The details are provided at the time of application.
f you wish to take courses, you must choose 50% of the courses in the main program to which you were nominated and you will be able to select courses in 2 additional programs. The selection is made at the time of application.
f you wish to conduct research, you must name your UdeC tutor at the time of application. They will be asked if they accept you for the period defined. We recommend being in contact with your potential tutor prior to your application.
If you wish to do an internship, it must be in accordance with what is offered in the curricular structure of the program of interest and provided that there are vacancies available.

What document does the UdeC provide me with to facilitate the acknowledgement of my activities?

If you took courses during your exchange, at the end of the semester, we will email you and the person in charge of mobility at your home University a transcript with the marks and courses taken, the average mark , the marking scale and the type of credits used at the University.
If you conducted research or did an internship, your supervisor will provide an activity report. We will email you this document with a copy to the person in charge of mobility at your university.

Do I have to pay international fees?

The international fee is USD$2,000 per semester. Students on exchange within the framework of the current cooperation agreements signed between UdeC and the University of origin are exempt from the international fee and must seek to have sufficient funds for living expenses during their stay.

What are the immigration requirements to go on exchange?

If you come to Universidad de Concepción on exchange for a period of less than 180 days, you need a Transitory Stay Permit, Student Subcategory, which is granted by the International Police at the Customs Office when entering Chile. This Transitory Stay Permit is valid for 90 days. Before the expiration date, you must request online a 90-day extension and pay USD$100.
If your stay at UdeC exceeds 180 days, you must apply online from your home country for a Temporary Residence Permit under the “Students of Recognized Institutions” category. Does UdeC provide accommodation for international students?

UdeC does not provide accommodation for international students.
However, the International Affairs Office has an accommodation database of places close to Campus, either in pensions or shared apartments.
Prior to your arrival, we can guide you on the most suitable place to live in during your stay according to your budget and preferences.

Do I need insurance to go on exchange at UdeC?

Universidad de Concepción requires that international students take out insurance that covers civil liability, repatriation in the event of death and health.
