Who are we?

The International Affairs Office is the body in charge of proposing and applying strategies, policies and programs aimed at addressing international relations and international cooperation activities of Universidad de Concepción, and is also in charge of managing programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening the student and academic mobility of the institution at international level.

Objectives of the International Affairs Office

As of March 9, 2023, by approval of the Academic Council of the Universidad de Concepción and in accordance with Decree Nº2023-045, the International Affairs Office (DRI) becomes directly dependent on the Vice-rectory of Institutional Relations and Public Engagement; Vice-rectory in charge of “proposing and applying strategies and policies aimed at serving the institutional relations of Universidad de Concepción” with the local, national and international environment and their organizations.

The work of DRI is related to two strategic objectives of Public Engagement (UdeC Public Engagement Policy in accordance with the Institutional Strategic Plan (ISP) 2021-2030).

Implement a collaboration dialogue model that articulates the institutional capabilities to participate and respond to the needs of the environment.
Boost the creation of opportunities for mutual benefit with the social, cultural, political-administrative and productive environment that contribute to sustainable development.

Within the framework of the Institutional Strategic Plan (2021–2030), other strategic objectives considered within the work of DRI (DECREE U. DE C. Nº2020-192) are:

Posicionar el quehacer universitario a nivel regional, nacional e internacional a través de una política de comunicación estratégica (Gestión)
Ofrecer programas formativos que respondan y se anticipen a las necesidades del medio nacional y las tendencias internacionales. (Formación)
Fortalecer el impacto de la investigación y creación artística en la sociedad, la ciencia y la cultura.

Field of Action

Mobility Area

In charge of promoting Universidad de Concepción as a mobility destination for international students from strategic partner universities through the delivery of relevant information about the UdeC experience.
In addition, it coordinates the international student application process, establishing a link between the university of origin and UdeC. Furthermore, it intends to consolidate the internationalization of UdeC undergraduate programs through the dissemination of opportunities for mobility and curricular internationalization, strengthening the egress profile through international and intercultural elements. This is possible thanks to scholarships and attractive programs for students, managed by DRI in conjunction with the academic units of UdeC.

Agreements Area

The unit is responsible for managing and coordinating international agreements, which serve as the primary mechanisms for engagement between the University of Concepción and partner institutions worldwide. These agreements formalize existing collaborations between UdeC faculty and international counterparts, while also enabling the development of new partnerships and strategic global connections. Agreements may take the form of either framework or specific arrangements, including both newly established and renewed partnerships. In line with the University’s strategic priorities, particular emphasis has recently been placed on the development of double degree and cotutelle agreements.

Protocol and Communications Area

As part of its core functions, the Office of International Relations organizes and coordinates the agendas of visiting delegations and distinguished guests to campus, with the aim of fostering cooperation and collaboration with institutions aligned with the University’s mission, as defined by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations and Engagement. Through these efforts, the Office promotes international integration and strategic partnerships, enhancing the University’s global visibility across its teaching, research, innovation, creative activities, outreach, and engagement.

In addition, the Office is responsible for communicating its activities and managing corporate events.
